Harmonized reporting templates
Eleven thematic spreadheets (with several worksheets in them) are provided for reporting Livestock statistics and Information at Member state level and at regional level (SADC). They are organized into Components and Modules with their related Statistical Templates. The system is modular, scalable, the workload can be divided, and it is collaborative by nature.
Application and Manuals
A relational database and software (LIMS in MS Access©) has been developped to facilitate the collation, import and transfer of data between the different partners in this collaborative information system. The installation of the software must be adapted to the national configurations found in member states, for the various contributions and sources of information to LIMS must finally develop a comprehensive central and national database. Nevertheless multiple installations are possible and promoted when it may facilitate the contributions of the different sources of information required and when there is no LAN available (which would require a unique installation). After data capture in the respective locations and according to the modules covered, the transfer of data is then processed from the sources of information to the central database. Therefore, Member states must consult their IT services and optimize the LIMS configuration according to their resources and needs.
National LIMS networks of personnel
During the LIMS adoption missions and through the sub committees of SADC LTC, a community of LIMS users and trainers has been established.
They are forming the national "LIMS task forces" and are acting as coordination units to run the system at national level.
Besides, a few regional entities (the thematic sub committees of the Livestock technical committee of SADC) have a crucial role in being the custodians of the LIMS system for the region.
All groups have been supported and strenghtened to coordinate the regional integration agenda of the Livestock sector, through the use of the LIMS system.
Standard operating procedures SoP’s
SoP's are established to run the LIMS system with quality management principles, at national level and between national and regional levels (national / regional interface)
