    MTD:  The Remote Sensing Center (La Maison de la télédétection  in French) in Montpellier is home to teams from several different research institutes and is a veritable pole of excellence of applied research in the fields of remote sensing and geographical information.

    The activities of the various units of the Remote Sensing Center are organised around three broad axes :

    - Skills, methodologies and themes ;
    - Research activities through projects, theses and publications ;
    - Training activities in the fields of GIS (geographical information systems) and remote sensing.

    These activities are structured around products derived from remote sensing data and geographic information processing. The overall framework is providing support in the management of the environment, resources and land.

    Agirs (Director: François Roger): L’animal sauvage ou domestique, de par sa nature, ses fonctions et ses usages peut être une source de dangers ou un facteur de vulnérabilité pour la santé, l’environnement et le développement. Face à ce constat, les chercheurs de l’UPR Animal et Gestion Intégrée des Risques (AGIRs) ont choisi de focaliser leurs recherches sur les risques sanitaires qui fragilisent les communautés, les sociétés ou les agro-écosystèmes du Sud.

    Les travaux de l’UPR AGIRs visent à :

    - Identifier et évaluer au travers de dispositifs de surveillance (observatoires), les risques sanitaires, réels ou perçus, liés à l’animal pouvant pénaliser la santé et par conséquent le développement et la sécurité des sociétés du Sud ;

     - Comprendre et quantifier les facteurs structurels et fonctionnels et les mécanismes déterminants l’apparition et la gravité de ces risques liés aux animaux sauvages et domestiques ;

    - Sur la base de modèles et de scénarios, concevoir et expérimenter des outils intégrés de prévention, de gestion et d’intervention pour surveiller, prévenir et limiter les causes et les conséquences de ces risques.

    Pour ce faire, deux approches complémentaires sont privilégiées :

    - L’approche générique  qui s’intéresse au comportement et conséquences d’une maladie pouvant mettre en danger des populations animales et humaines, des systèmes, des filières en y intégrant les aspects de prévention et de gestion. On parlera d’une approche « analyse de risque ».  Cas des maladies transfrontalières (grippe aviaire, fièvre aphteuse, etc.) ou de certaines maladies à transmission vectorielle (FVR).

    - L’approche systémique  qui se focalise sur le fonctionnement de systémes (filières) ou de communautés incluant des populations humaines et d’animaux sauvages et domestiques au sein desquels circulent des agents pathogènes. On parlera d’une approche « Ecologie de la santé  ». Cas des systèmes multiespèces homme-faune-bétail, des systèmes périurbains, des écosystèmes forestiers.

    CBGP , the Center for Biology and Management of Populations, (a joint research unit INRA/IRD/CIRAD/AGRO.M) carries out research in the fields of systematics, genetics and ecology relevant to the management of populations and communities of organisms for the purposes of agriculture, public health and biodiversity.

    This research seeks to elaborate the conceptual and theoretic approaches, and the tools (molecular and bioinformatic), necessary to manage such organisms either through biological control or conservation strategies. The goal is to manage interacting communities which respond to global changes. A range of biological model systems allow empirical testing of the theory and tools under development: arthropod, nematode and rodent systems along with the communities with which they may be associated.

    The CBGP has a resource of expertise in systematics, and maintains reference collections and databases for entomology, acarology, nematology and mammalogy. The latest molecular tools are used increase the efficiency and accuracy of taxonomic identification. The CBGP has developed numerous collaborations with tropical taxonomists based on this resource.

    Mahidol University, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Department of Helminthology: The mission of our department is teaching, training, research and services in the field of tropical diseases caused by medically important helminthes. The important role is teaching post graduate courses to medical doctors and health personnel from the SEAMEO member countries, as well as others from over the world. The Department carries out research activities in the basic and applied sciences in 4 main areas, include taxonomy and diversity of helminthes, biology and epidemiology, immunodiagnosis, and molecular biology.
     Role of academic services, we established the immunodiagnosis unit for helminthic infections in 1987 in order to service on serological testing for some helminthic infections. Up to date, more than diagnosed 13,000 serum samples from all over the world have been tested in this unit. Moreover, we are proud to be one of the recommendation sites among many famous institutes for serodiagnosis of helminthic infections, particularly Cysticercosis, Gnathostoma and Angiostrongylus infections.
     At present, the International Reference Centre for Food and Water Borne Parasitic Zoonoses is formulating for promotion of international networking on information and services exchange of parasitic zoonoses, identification and diagnosis.
