Originality through capitalizing

A desire and an approach for capitaizing

Taking into account numerous initiatives previously conducted to promote foodcrop productions, marketing and diversification, the AFOMDnet Project is original in terms of:

  1. real desire for captalizing
  2. setting up a method to reference and charaterize former initiatives
  3. developing specific tools to assist, through Internet, in the feeding of databases which are the tangible products of capitalizing

Filling a gap

The lack of capitalizing and exploitation of the results of the former research and development operations has been frequently pointed out, but nothing has been implemented to correct it. The AFOMDnet project is a contribution to reduce the lack of capitalizing.

Targeted tools and products will:

  1. respond to the need for relevant and accessible information to players invovled in one hand in the design of agricultural and research policies, and in the other hand in international assistance to development. For producers' families, in particular women involved in the production and processing of foodcrops, the commitment in capitalizing ensures that the real conditions of their involvement are taken into account and addressed in setting agricultural policies.
  2. form usefull references to help adapt projects to local and regional contexts in the area of development and efficient policies for agricultue and research.

An approach and a tool useful to researchers

The approach and the tool carried out have resulted from the observation that:

  • when common tools or products lack, researchers' network cannot be sufficiently active because of lack of sense of participation to a network
  • updated knowledge of the state of art is crucial to the quality of researcher's performance

The tool, called SLIRE (Scientific Literature Referencing tool), has been carried out for researchers to help respond to the two aboved observations.

CAN : an Internet tool for capitalizing

It is not possible to consider capitalizing in an absolute way, either for the area considered in AFOMDnet project (foodcrop production, markeging and diversification) or any other area. Capitalizing must refer to an analytical framework implying that an analytical approach has to be specifically clarified for the area considered. The CAN tool, for Capitalizing ANalytically, is carried out to assist in the analytical approach for various areas of production.
