AFOMDnet About our Project Our logo
...and how we see links between foodcrop and diversification productions...
...as well as functions they may fulfil
...refer of course to grains, foodcrops and their role to food security.
They are of various sizes so as to sustain that cultivated crops could contribute at variable extent to food. This indication implies diversification, althgouh not limited to foodcrops.
...reinforces the notion of network. This notion is already integrated in the word AFOMDnet, but we want to emphasize the idea of link. The ring is stylized so as to demonstrate a sense of dynamics, showing the take-off of the network after acceleration.
The O ring links barns together, as for the various productions of the same cropping system. It also claims the need of coordination along production chains, from field to market.
It is not indicating that wheat must be grown in sub-tropical and tropical areas of ACP countries. It goes for "bread" or money in slang. It designates cash income which can be expected both from diversification and foodcrop productions.
The way wheat is kind of being ejected from the ring correspond to the idea that cash generation would not only dervive from foodcrop and diversification productions but furthermore from the proper coordination between these productions.
Showing wheat is voluntarily iconoclast when dealing with ACP countries. This is to emphasize the need to open mind when addressing diversification so as to go beyond existing crops. When one thinks of silk, one thinks of China but seldom people know that Brazil has become the main country producing and exporting silk. One might have to dare integrating foreign productions in one's cropping system. This is the rationale of illustrating this website with photos of crops and of animals which are little mentioned or known in tropical zones but which might be considered.
